The facts

Spellar AI is a meeting intelligence tool built around one principle: no bot ever joins your call. Instead of sending a bot participant into Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams, Spellar captures audio directly on your Mac, iPhone, or iPad using the device microphone. There is no notification to attendees, no notetaker in the participant list, and no dependency on the meeting platform granting third-party access. Transcription runs on-device by default in 100 plus languages, with server-side AI transcription available as an opt-in per meeting, giving users a real choice between local privacy and cloud processing quality. Audio retention is configurable from one hour to permanent, or device-only so nothing leaves the machine. This privacy architecture is the clearest differentiation from Fireflies.ai, tl;dv, and Fathom, which rely on cloud-based bot joiners. After each call, Spellar generates a structured summary with decisions, highlights, and action items, organized using one of 30 plus built-in templates covering standups, 1:1s, retros, sales discovery, and investor meetings. Templates can be written in plain language rather than configured through a settings interface. The cross-meeting memory layer lets users ask Spellar what a client said across all past meetings, retrieve decisions or commitments from calls weeks ago, and scope queries to a folder, project, or contact. Every answer is cited back to the exact moment in the original transcript. Weekly and monthly recaps summarize all meetings from the period without manual review. Native integrations include Notion, Linear, Slack, Jira, Salesforce, HubSpot, and Asana, with two-way sync on Linear and Jira, plus Zapier and webhooks. Pricing verified live on spellar.ai/pricing in July 2026, in USD. There is no free tier. Spellar Pro is $18.99 per month billed monthly, or $11.99 per month billed annually ($143.88 per year, a 37 percent saving), with a 14-day money-back guarantee. Every premium AI model is included at no extra cost, including GPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity, switchable per meeting, per template, or per query, and users can bring their own API key for fully private processing. Spellar Teams is custom-priced starting at 5 seats and is arranged through a sales contact, currently offered as early access. Spellar AI is not the right fit for teams needing a free tier: Fathom and Fireflies.ai both offer meaningful free plans, whereas Spellar starts at $11.99 per month with no permanent free option. Windows-first organizations cannot use Spellar natively, since the app is Mac, iPhone, iPad, and web only. Enterprise procurement teams requiring SOC 2 Type II should note Spellar has not completed third-party security audits, unlike Fathom and Fireflies.ai, which hold SOC 2 Type II. On privacy, Spellar's policy (last updated February 13, 2026) states user data is not used to train any AI models, that data is processed via provider API calls only, and that its API agreements prohibit customer data being used for model training. Spellar LTD is registered in England and Wales (company number 16213772), processes data under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, addresses CCPA rights, and stores data on Google Cloud Platform in EU and UK regions. Current state Q3 2026: Spellar is an actively developed native app (version 3.3.1) with strong independent traction on ProductHunt, where it holds 23 reviews at 4.96 out of 5 and 3,600 plus followers, even though its unclaimed G2 profile still shows 0 reviews. Every premium AI model is bundled into the single subscription, and no MCP server has been announced.

Pros & Limitations

Editorial assessment

Pros

  • No bot joins calls: Spellar records natively on Mac, iPhone, and iPad audio without sending a participant into the meeting, eliminating the privacy concern and awkward presence that bot-based tools like Fireflies.ai, tl;dv, and Fathom introduce
  • Cross-meeting memory lets users query what was said across all past recordings with cited, sourced answers linked to the exact moment in the original transcript, rather than searching through individual session notes manually
  • Every premium AI model is included in the base subscription: GPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity are all available without additional cost and are switchable per meeting, per template, or per individual question

Limitations

  • No free tier: Spellar Pro starts at $18.99 per month (or $11.99 per month annual) with no permanent free plan, unlike Fathom and Fireflies.ai which both offer free tiers with meaningful usage limits
  • No SOC 2 Type II or ISO 27001 certification: Spellar covers UK GDPR and CCPA compliance but has not completed third-party security audits, which limits enterprise procurement in regulated industries where Fathom and Fireflies.ai have confirmed certifications
  • Mac, iPhone, iPad, and web only: no Windows client means organizations on Windows-first environments cannot standardize on Spellar, and Windows users in mixed-device teams must use the web app which lacks native OS-level audio capture
