Claude is the conversational AI platform from Anthropic, available at claude.ai on web, iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows. The Claude model family currently available includes Opus 4.8 (complex reasoning and agentic coding, released May 28, 2026, now the most capable publicly available Claude model), Sonnet 4.6 (optimal balance of intelligence, cost, and speed), and Haiku 4.5 (fastest and most cost-efficient). Fable 5, a Mythos-class model launched June 9, 2026, was suspended on June 12, 2026 following a US government export control directive citing national security concerns related to a potential jailbreak method. Anthropic stated it disagrees with the decision, noting the jailbreak was narrow and non-universal, and that the capabilities demonstrated are widely available from other models. Mythos 5 (restricted to trusted organizations through Project Glasswing) was also suspended under the same directive. Anthropic has stated it is working to restore access. Until resolved, Opus 4.8 is the top-tier model available to all users. Beyond conversational chat, Claude includes agentic features: Research (multi-step autonomous web investigation), Claude Managed Agents (public beta, harness for long-running agentic work), Projects (persistent context and document workspaces), Memory (cross-session recall), Skills (organization-deployable custom capabilities), MCP Connectors (integrate any external data source or tool via Model Context Protocol), and Artifacts (live code execution and file creation). Parallel sub-products ship within the same plan: Claude Code (terminal-based agentic coding), Claude Cowork (knowledge-work desktop app), Claude for Excel/PowerPoint/Word (Office integrations), Claude for Chrome (browsing agent), and Claude for Slack. NASA used Claude for the first AI-assisted drive on another planet. The platform serves knowledge workers, researchers, developers, and enterprise teams globally. Claude pioneered the Model Context Protocol (MCP) as a first-class connector system, enabling integration with any external data source or tool through remote MCP without custom development. Native connectors include Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, and Slack. Office add-ins cover Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Pro ($17/month annual or $20/month monthly) adds Claude Code, Cowork, Excel/PowerPoint integrations, unlimited Projects, Research mode, Memory, and higher usage limits. Max (from $100/month) provides 5x or 20x Pro usage with priority access and is recommended for heavy Claude Code and Cowork users. Team ($20/seat annual for 5 to 150 users) adds SSO, central admin, and enterprise search. Enterprise (custom) adds SCIM, audit logs, Compliance API, HIPAA-ready deployment, custom data retention, network access controls, and IP allowlisting. API pricing is separate and per-token. Claude does not offer image or video generation: users needing visual creation must pair Claude with Midjourney, DALL-E, Sora, or similar tools. The third-party app ecosystem is smaller than the ChatGPT Custom GPT marketplace: community-built workflow discovery is less mature. Rate limits at Pro ($17/month) are tighter than competing tiers at similar prices: power users routinely hit limits on Opus and need Max ($100+/month) for sustained heavy daily use. ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) offers image generation and a larger plugin ecosystem. Google Gemini ($19.99/month) integrates natively with Google Workspace. Microsoft Copilot integrates with the Microsoft 365 suite. Current state as of June 12, 2026: Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 were suspended by a US government export control directive on June 12, 2026. Anthropic is complying with the directive but publicly disputes the technical basis, stating the identified jailbreak was narrow and non-universal and that equivalent capabilities are available from other publicly deployed models including GPT-5.5. Anthropic has stated it is working to restore access. Opus 4.8 remains the top-tier publicly available model. Claude Managed Agents remain in public beta. NASA used Claude for the first AI-assisted drive on another planet. Claude launched on Microsoft Foundry (in preview). Claude for Government provides FedRAMP High certification with DoD IL4 and IL5 available through AWS GovCloud. The Trust Center at trust.anthropic.com provides a comprehensive security matrix: SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 42001, HIPAA, and FedRAMP High are confirmed across applicable product tiers. No customer content is used for model training on Team and Enterprise plans by default, with opt-out available on other tiers.
