Claude for Word

Claude for Word is Anthropic's native Microsoft Word add-in, part of the Claude for Microsoft 365 suite (alongside Claude for Excel, Claude for PowerPoint, and Claude for Outlook in Beta). Launched April 13, 2026 in Beta, it completes Anthropic's integration across the Microsoft Office suite and inherits the shared cross-app context introduced March 11, 2026. Capabilities: review long documents and surface key changes, handle comment threads and resolve them in context, redline revisions across versions, draft sections from natural language briefs, edit clauses while maintaining styles, numbering, and document structure, and synthesize content across multi-section documents. Open via the Claude sidebar in Word after installing the add-in from Microsoft AppSource. The standout cross-app workflow: an analyst can analyze sales data in Excel, ask Claude to turn insights into charts, switch to PowerPoint to build an executive deck, then move to Word to draft the accompanying report. Claude remembers the full conversation and data across all three files, eliminating the export-paste-reformat cycle. Skills (saved one-click workflows) let teams capture standardized processes such as "redline this contract against our standard terms" as reusable actions deployable to all users. Named gaps: Claude for Word is still in Beta as of the April 2026 launch, meaning rough edges and incomplete documentation remain; it does not yet appear in Enterprise audit logs or Compliance API, a particularly material gap for legal teams where every action on a contract should be traceable; and the add-in is bundled with Claude subscriptions rather than available as a standalone purchase. Legal teams in regulated industries should note that Claude for Word does not yet appear in Enterprise audit logs or Compliance API, meaning full contract action traceability is not yet available; teams with strict compliance frameworks should wait for audit log coverage before deploying at scale.
