The facts

AdRoll is the programmatic display and retargeting advertising platform built for SMB and mid-market ecommerce brands that need pay-as-you-go advertising without enterprise contract minimums. It operates as part of NextRoll alongside AdRoll ABM, formerly RollWorks, its B2B account-based marketing product line. Its particular strength is among ecommerce, DTC and direct response advertisers needing cross-channel display and retargeting across the open web alongside Meta and Google. The vendor states that more than 110,000 brands have used the platform. It targets brands that need to recapture cart abandoners, site visitors and high-intent audiences without the budget commitments enterprise programmatic platforms require. AdRoll publishes an official first-party MCP server at services.adroll.com/mcp, documented in its help centre and live in open beta. The endpoint is OAuth-protected and returns an authentication challenge rather than a public response. AdRoll documents Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, n8n and Microsoft Copilot Studio as supported clients, and states that during the beta the server is supported for all AdRoll packages. Connected clients can retrieve campaign performance, create campaign drafts, manage supported campaign workflows and surface ABM account intelligence, with tools including create_strategy and get_account_list_definitions. The permission model is inherited rather than expanded: the vendor states that a connected client can only reach data the authenticated AdRoll user could already see, and that MCP does not override existing permissions. AdRoll publishes no launch date for the server. It is distinct from the AdRoll AI Assistant, which runs inside the platform itself. Integrations centre on ecommerce and marketing platforms. Names confirmed on AdRoll's own Connected Advertising Ecosystem page are Shopify, HubSpot, Klaviyo, Google Analytics, Segment and Meta. AdRoll publishes dedicated integration pages for Shopify, BigCommerce and WooCommerce, and on each the integration enables dynamic product ads that pull catalog data and serve personalized creative to site visitors and cart abandoners. Meta Ads and Google Ads are supported alongside open web display inventory. The vendor states that AdRoll integrates with 70+ leading marketing platforms across media, analytics, attribution, CRM, ecommerce and automation. The ecosystem page itself is client-rendered, so the full connector directory could not be enumerated name by name. Deeper intent data, account identification and AI-powered account scoring sit mainly in AdRoll ABM, a separate product line with separate pricing, though the MCP server does surface some ABM account intelligence. Pricing is pay-as-you-go and no rate is published at any tier. The pricing page lists three packages. Self-Service is sign-up accessible and routes to registration rather than sales, with cross-channel attribution and social ads sold as add-ons. Managed Services adds managed campaign services with qualifying ad spend and routes to Contact Sales. The Advanced Package requires a one-year commitment, includes the full platform, free ad credits and guaranteed services, and also routes to Contact Sales. No CPM rates, platform fees or minimum spend requirements appear anywhere on the pricing page. What that means in practice is that even the self-serve tier gives no way to model cost before creating an account, since the advertised value is access rather than a rate. AdRoll is still one of the few programmatic platforms with a no-minimum-commitment entry point for SMB advertisers. AdRoll is not the right fit for B2B enterprise advertisers needing account-based marketing with intent data depth. Demandbase and 6sense provide first-party intent networks, account identification, predictive scoring and AI agents purpose-built for enterprise B2B go-to-market, and those capabilities are not in the core AdRoll product. For social-first advertisers whose primary channel is Meta or Google, the native Meta Ads Manager and Google Ads platforms offer deeper targeting within those channels without programmatic overhead. Smartly.io serves enterprise advertisers needing unified creative production and cross-platform media buying at scale. For brands primarily needing email retargeting and lifecycle marketing rather than display, Klaviyo covers email and SMS retention without the display advertising layer. Current state Q3 2026: AdRoll ABM has been rebranded from RollWorks and is positioned as the B2B arm of the platform under NextRoll. The MCP server is in open beta and is one of the few first-party MCP servers published by a programmatic advertising platform. On assurance, NextRoll states it has completed a SOC 2 Type 2 audit for security and privacy with no exceptions, and the report is available to customers on request through its SafeBase security portal. That portal also lists GDPR and CCPA under compliance, alongside off-list items including PCI DSS, a SOC 3 report, a CAIQ v4.0.2 self-assessment and a SIG Lite self-assessment. Worth noting for buyers running a security review: ISO 27001 appears on that portal as a self-assessment rather than a certification. Assurance runs at NextRoll level and covers AdRoll as one of its brands. NextRoll is a member of the IAB, the Network Advertising Initiative and the Trustworthy Accountability Group.

Pros & Limitations

Editorial assessment

Pros

  • Pay-as-you-go pricing with a self-serve tier that requires no minimum spend commitment and no sales call to activate, which makes AdRoll one of the few programmatic display platforms accessible to SMB and mid-market ecommerce brands that find enterprise programmatic contracts prohibitive.
  • An official first-party MCP server, live in open beta and supported across all AdRoll packages, lets campaign data and supported workflows surface directly in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, n8n and Microsoft Copilot Studio without expanding the connected user's existing permissions.
  • Cross-channel display retargeting across the open web alongside Meta and Google, with dynamic product ads that pull ecommerce catalog data automatically, gives DTC and ecommerce brands a unified retargeting layer that native Meta or Google tools alone cannot replicate.

Limitations

  • No CPM rates, platform fees or minimum spend figures are published at any tier, including the self-serve one. Total cost cannot be compared against alternatives without a sales engagement or an active account with spend history.
  • Display advertising performance has declined industry-wide as third-party cookies deprecate and ad blocking grows. This structural headwind affects the entire open web display retargeting category, including AdRoll, relative to social and native channels.
  • B2B ABM capabilities are limited in the core product. Teams needing intent data depth, account identification and predictive scoring should evaluate Demandbase or 6sense, or AdRoll ABM, which is a separate product line at separate pricing.
