n8n

n8n is a workflow automation platform from n8n GmbH, based in Berlin, that pairs a visual node editor with inline JavaScript and Python. It is fair-code: the source is public on GitHub under n8n's Sustainable Use License, anyone can self-host it, and paid Business and Enterprise licences unlock extra features. The repository has 208k GitHub stars, and n8n says it has more than 200,000 community members and is used by 34% of the Fortune 500. Vodafone is among the customers it names.

n8n lists more than 500 integrations on its website, and an HTTP Request node reaches any other REST API. Its AI nodes, built on LangChain, include an AI Agent node that can use other nodes as tools, vector-store nodes for retrieval, and model nodes that work with cloud or local models. Workflows can mix AI steps, human approvals and code. n8n Assistant, in preview, and the AI Workflow Builder help people build workflows in the editor and draw on monthly Assistant credits.

n8n has a built-in, instance-level MCP server. Once it is enabled, MCP clients can search a team's workflows, run the ones marked as available, and create and edit workflows and data tables. The MCP Server Trigger node exposes a single workflow as an MCP server, and the MCP Client Tool node lets an AI agent call external MCP servers. n8n can also be controlled through its API and CLI.

Prices are in euros. Every plan includes unlimited users and workflows and every integration, and n8n counts a full workflow run as one execution however many steps it has. On n8n Cloud, Starter costs EUR 20 per month billed annually or EUR 24 monthly for 2,500 executions, and Pro costs EUR 50 or EUR 60 for 10,000. Business costs EUR 667 per month billed annually or EUR 800 monthly for 40,000 executions and is self-hosted only for now, with SSO, Git version control and separate environments. Companies with fewer than 20 employees may qualify for 50% off Business. Enterprise is priced by quote and runs on n8n Cloud or self-hosted. The self-hosted Community Edition is free. Annual billing saves 17%, and the n8n Cloud trial needs no credit card.

n8n suits developer, DevOps and data teams that want to self-host automation or write code inside their workflows. Teams that want no-code automation with nothing to host should look at Zapier or Make.com. Security teams that want automation built around security operations should look at Tines. Regulated European enterprises that want governed teams of AI agents, with an SQL-queryable audit log, should look at Polyant.

Current state Q4 2026: n8n Cloud runs on Microsoft Azure, with data stored in the EU in Frankfurt, and the Business plan is on a waitlist for n8n Cloud. n8n's trust center lists SOC 2 Type 2, SOC 3 and GDPR, and the full SOC 2 report is shared with enterprise customers. n8n's privacy policy says it does not use personal data, including data from connected third-party services, to train its own or third-party AI or ML models.
