The facts

Klaviyo is an email, SMS, and customer data platform built for ecommerce brands on Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, and Magento. Its AI layer, K:AI, spans marketing, service, and analytics workflows. Klaviyo is publicly traded on NYSE as KVYO, founded in Boston in 2012, and states on its homepage that it powers 205,000+ relationship-driven brands across 100 countries. K:AI includes two autonomous agents: Composer (marketing) and Customer Agent (service). Composer audits flows, segments, and forms, then builds audiences, drafts content, and plans sends from a single prompt. Klaviyo states that Customer Agent resolves 65% of customer questions without a human agent involved, handling product recommendations and order inquiries 24/7. Built-in AI capabilities include predictive analytics (lifetime value, next purchase date, churn risk), AI segmentation via natural language, and Smart Send Time for per-recipient optimization. Klaviyo reports 400+ pre-built integrations. Native integrations are deepest with Shopify, including bidirectional sync covering orders, products, customer profiles, and Shopify Audiences. BigCommerce, WooCommerce, and Magento have dedicated native connectors. Channels include Facebook and Instagram ads for audience sync, WhatsApp for conversational and transactional marketing, RCS for Business, and Social Marketing for organic social. Klaviyo publishes an official MCP server, available to all customers at no additional cost. The remote server at mcp.klaviyo.com authenticates over OAuth and exposes roughly 40 core tools covering campaigns, flows, profiles, segments, templates, and reporting, so external AI clients including Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and VS Code can read and act on live account data without custom API work. A local server is published as well. The platform is API-first with a REST API covering all major operations. Notable gaps: Salesforce CRM and HubSpot CRM sync require third-party middleware, and Klaviyo lacks native connectors to B2B or enterprise sales stacks. Klaviyo uses an active profiles pricing model, published in USD and labelled as such on the plan builder. The free plan covers up to 250 active profiles, 500 emails per month, $5 of mobile messages per month, and 10,000 Composer credits, with no credit card required. Driving the plan builder to its floor gives 500 active profiles at $20 per month with 5,000 monthly email sends. Composer is a separate paid add-on listed at $157 per month for 16,000 monthly credits and currently sold at $110 under a 30% introductory discount. Customer Agent is a separate paid add-on listed at $200 per month for 200 AI conversions and currently sold at $140 under the same 30% discount, with 50 free conversations included. Klaviyo states that this introductory pricing runs through 30 September 2026, after which both add-ons revert to their list rates. Social Marketing, Reviews, Data + Analytics, and Service are each priced independently, and moving the active-profiles slider changes several of them together. Professional Services and Enterprise are quote-based and require a sales conversation. Predictive analytics, AI segmentation, and Smart Send Time are included in the base plan at no extra cost. Klaviyo is designed around ecommerce purchase data. Its predictive AI does not translate to B2B SaaS, professional services, or content businesses where transaction order signals are absent. HubSpot Sales Hub (from $7/mo billed annually) or ActiveCampaign are better suited for non-transactional customer models. At scale, Klaviyo's active-profile pricing climbs steeply as the list grows, making it a deliberate platform investment rather than a low-cost email tool. Brands prioritizing AI copywriting depth and performance prediction should evaluate Anyword (from $39/mo billed annually) or Persado (custom pricing). As of Q3 2026, Klaviyo positions itself as "The Autonomous B2C CRM." Composer (formerly Marketing Agent) remains in BETA and uses credit-based pricing, with recent releases adding campaign briefs, subject line and preview text intelligence drawn from a brand's own historic message performance, and universal content support. Customer Agent detects the language a shopper writes in and, per Klaviyo, supports 113 languages across web chat, email, SMS, and WhatsApp, and now supports custom skills, tools, and agent guidance. Klaviyo's MCP server exposes template creation and update tools, including drag-and-drop templates. Klaviyo's certifications are published as badges on its Conveyor-hosted trust centre at trust.klaviyo.com, which names SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 27017, PCI DSS, GDPR and CCPA. Of those, ISO 27017 and PCI DSS sit outside our published certification set. Note that the badge strips on klaviyo.com itself carry only a generic AICPA SOC mark and do not name the SOC 2 type. Klaviyo names OpenAI and Anthropic as subprocessors for AI features. Per Klaviyo's published AI FAQs, the third-party generative AI providers behind K:AI are contractually prohibited from retaining customer data or using it to train their own models, and Klaviyo trains its proprietary models only on aggregated or de-identified data.

Pros & Limitations

Editorial assessment

Pros

  • Predictive analytics grounded in real purchase order data: predicted lifetime value, next purchase date, and churn risk are calculated from actual Shopify and Magento transaction history. These produce materially more accurate predictions for DTC brands than email-engagement-only models.
  • Klaviyo publishes an official MCP server, available to all customers at no additional cost. External AI clients including Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and VS Code connect to it over OAuth and act on live account data across roughly 40 core tools without custom API work.
  • Two autonomous AI agents. Composer builds full marketing campaigns from a single prompt, and Klaviyo reports Customer Agent resolving 65% of questions without human involvement across 113 languages. Both operate across the full customer lifecycle from acquisition to support.

Limitations

  • Purchase-behavior AI predictions do not translate to B2B SaaS, professional services, or content businesses. Predicted LTV and churn risk require transaction order data, so ecommerce-specific AI features deliver reduced value outside transactional models.
  • Costs stack quickly past the entry tier. Paid email starts at $20 per month for 500 active profiles, but Composer (listed at $157 per month for 16,000 credits) and Customer Agent (listed at $200 per month for 200 AI conversions) are separately priced add-ons, both currently discounted 30% under introductory pricing that Klaviyo says runs to 30 September 2026, and active-profile pricing climbs steeply as the list grows.
  • Composer is in BETA with credit-based pricing, and Customer Agent's 65% autonomous resolution rate is a vendor claim. Our G2 rating and review count for this listing belong to the Klaviyo platform as a whole rather than to either agent, and neither agent has separately verified production reviews as of Q3 2026.
