The facts

Rippling is a workforce platform that unifies HR (HRIS, payroll, benefits, performance), IT (device management, app provisioning, identity and access management) and Finance (corporate cards, expense management, bill pay) in one system. Founded in 2016, it positions itself as a replacement for a stack of separate point tools, so that a single employee change propagates across payroll, device access and spend controls at once. Rippling raised a 450 million dollar Series G in May 2025 at a 16.8 billion dollar valuation. The company operates as People Center Inc, doing business as Rippling. Rippling publishes a first-party MCP server. Its developer documentation describes the Rippling MCP as an MCP server that lets external AI clients connect to Rippling data and tools. Rippling separately ships an MCP Gateway under its IT product, which lets administrators set policy over which MCP servers their users may reach. The developer platform also exposes a REST API, a JavaScript SDK, Pipelines and App Studio. Integrations verified on Rippling's own integrations page include Slack, Microsoft, Salesforce, Asana, Jira, Zoom, GitHub, Datadog, NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero, BILL, Carta and 1Password. Rippling's App Shop directory is loaded dynamically, so the full catalog size could not be counted from any public page and no total is published here. Pricing is quote-only. The pricing page carries no rates in any currency and routes to a custom quote request. Rippling states that most products are billed on a per-employee, per-month basis and that some carry a monthly base fee. Buyers select modules across HR, IT and Spend, and Rippling scopes a quote. What the quote does not avoid is the platform floor: Rippling states that each product is purchased alongside the core, required Rippling Platform, so no single module can be bought on its own. Because no rate is published at any tier, cost cannot be modeled before a sales conversation, which is a real procurement constraint for finance teams that shortlist on price. Rippling is not the right fit for a team that needs one function only. A buyer who wants payroll alone can start from Gusto at $49/mo, and a buyer who wants performance and engagement alone can start from Lattice at $4/mo billed annually, both of which publish rates. Consolidation also creates switching cost: once HR, IT and Finance all run through Rippling, unwinding it means re-integrating several systems at once. Buyers who want the deepest single-function tooling should also evaluate specialist vendors in identity management and spend management. As of Q3 2026, Rippling AI answers natural language questions across unified HR, IT and Finance data and proposes actions, with links back to the source record. Rippling states that any action Rippling AI proposes requires explicit human confirmation before execution, and that usage data is not used to train AI models. Admins can enable or disable AI features and configure data permissions at the platform level. Rippling holds SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 27018 and ISO 42001 certifications, publishes a SOC 1 Type II report and a public SOC 3 report, and holds CSA STAR Level 2. Its security page states that Rippling complies with applicable privacy and data protection laws including GDPR and CCPA.

Pros & Limitations

Editorial assessment

Pros

  • A single employee record drives HR, IT and Finance actions together, so provisioning devices and app access on hire and revoking them on termination happens automatically from the HR event rather than as separate IT work.
  • Publishes a first-party MCP server that lets external AI clients connect to Rippling data, plus an MCP Gateway that lets IT administrators set policy over which MCP servers their users may reach.
  • Unusually complete published security posture for the category, with SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 27018 and ISO 42001 certifications, a public SOC 3 report and CSA STAR Level 2, all documented on Rippling's own trust portal.

Limitations

  • Pricing is quote-only at every tier with no published rates in any currency, so cost cannot be modeled before entering a sales conversation.
  • Every product is sold alongside the core, required Rippling Platform, so no single module can be purchased on its own and the platform fee applies regardless of how narrow the need is.
  • Rippling AI cannot complete any action on its own, because the vendor requires explicit human confirmation before execution, which limits it to proposing rather than resolving work end to end.

Autonomous rateTwo different levels of autonomy sit in one platform. Rippling's rules-based automation acts without per-action approval: device provisioning, app access and identity permissions trigger automatically from HR events such as hire, promotion and termination, and payroll and benefits processing run on schedule. Rippling AI, the natural language assistant, is not autonomous. Rippling states that any action Rippling AI proposes requires explicit human confirmation before execution, and that its answers link back to the source record so results can be verified. Admins can enable or disable AI features and configure data permissions at the platform level.
