The facts

Gemini Spark is Google's always-on personal AI agent, built into the Gemini app and run on Google's cloud so that tasks keep going after your phone and laptop are switched off. Google announced it on 19 May 2026 as a beta for Google AI Ultra subscribers in the United States and added the Gemini app for macOS on 30 June 2026. Google now lists it as included in both Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra. It operates autonomously under your direction: you turn it on, it works in the background, and it is designed to check with you before taking major actions. Google still describes it as an experimental feature in early development and asks users to supervise its tasks. Spark organizes work around three primitives. Tasks are one-time background jobs such as tracking a package, researching a topic with cited sources, or finding flights that match specific criteria. Schedules are recurring workflows on a cadence you define, for example scanning your inbox every Monday morning and producing a prioritized to-do list. Skills are reusable workflows you teach Spark by describing the steps, such as turning your last fifty sent emails into a style guide and applying it whenever you ask for a draft. Up to 15 tasks can run at once, and Spark can take over a remote browser or remote computer to complete a task, asking you to step in when a site needs you. Integration depth: Spark connects to Google Workspace, meaning Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Keep, Tasks and Contacts, plus Google Maps, Search, Flights, Hotels, YouTube and Gemini Notebook. Google's Connected Apps list also names third-party apps that work in Spark mode, including Airtable, Canva, Dropbox, Granola, Otter.ai, PandaDoc, Picsart, Wix, Zillow, Instacart, OpenTable, Ticketmaster, Thumbtack, Viator, Angi, Fever and GetYourGuide. Most of those are US-only and English-only, and a set of Zoho apps is offered in India. Spark is also a Model Context Protocol client: in the Gemini web app you can add any custom app by its MCP server URL, and Gemini then uses it in Spark on web and mobile. Custom MCP apps are currently limited to the US and to English, require a personal Google Account, and Gemini asks for manual confirmation before any write action they perform. On macOS, Spark can additionally work with local files in folders you connect. Pricing, in US dollars: there is no standalone Spark subscription. Spark is included in Google AI Pro at $19.99 per month and in Google AI Ultra at $99.99 or $199.99 per month, and is not included in the $4.99 Google AI Plus tier or the free tier. Google AI Pro also carries 5 TB of storage and 4x the free tier's Gemini usage limits, and Ultra carries 20x the Pro plan's limits at the higher price. Spark draws on the same compute-based usage limits as the rest of Gemini, so heavy use of Spark counts against your plan's allowance, and Gemini warns you as you approach it. What the entry price does not buy: Spark requires a personal Google Account, so it is unavailable on work or school accounts, and it requires the Keep Activity setting to be on. It is not offered in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland or Nigeria. Cancelling or downgrading below Pro pauses schedules, turns off skills and stops new tasks, although existing work is kept. Custom MCP connections are US and English only. Spark suits individuals who already live in Google Workspace and want a personal agent that runs scheduled and background work for them. Buyers who want an agent with enterprise identity controls, audit logging and administrative governance should look at Microsoft Scout or Salesforce Agentforce as well. Buyers who want a customer-facing agent that answers messages for a business should look at Meta Business Agent as well. Current state Q3 2026: Spark is available in Google AI Pro and Ultra on the web app, the mobile app and the Mac app, everywhere Gemini Apps are offered except the EEA, the UK, Switzerland and Nigeria. Google labels it a beta and expects to widen access over time. Custom MCP app connections are live for US English users. SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 are scoped to the Gemini app in Google Cloud's compliance documentation, which is the app Spark runs inside.

Pros & Limitations

Editorial assessment

Pros

  • Runs in Google's cloud around the clock, so Tasks, Schedules and Skills keep working while your phone and laptop are off, with up to 15 tasks running at once.
  • Works natively across Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Keep, Tasks and Contacts, plus Maps, YouTube and a published list of third-party Connected Apps such as Airtable, Canva, Dropbox and PandaDoc.
  • Acts as an MCP client: any custom app can be connected by its MCP server URL in the Gemini web app, and Gemini asks for confirmation before each write action.
  • Included in Google AI Pro at $19.99 per month with no separate charge, and Google publishes every tier price and what each tier carries.

Limitations

  • Requires a personal Google Account, so it is unavailable on work or school accounts, and it requires the Keep Activity setting to be on.
  • Not offered in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland or Nigeria, and custom MCP app connections are limited to the US and to English.
  • Google labels Spark a beta and an experimental feature in early development, and it asks you to supervise tasks and step in when a website needs you.
  • Cancelling or downgrading below Google AI Pro pauses schedules and turns off skills, and Spark usage counts against the plan's shared Gemini usage limits.
