Litmaps is an AI-powered citation visualization and literature-monitoring tool that lets researchers discover, visualize, and track scholarly literature through interactive citation graphs (Litmaps) and configurable literature alerts. Founded in New Zealand and operated by Litmap Limited, the platform helps researchers build a visual map of a field: you upload seed papers, and Litmaps navigates the citation network to surface related work. Literature alerts (a Pro feature) automatically surface new papers matching the research area and update existing Litmaps weekly, enabling ongoing field monitoring rather than one-off searches. Best fit: graduate students and academic researchers building comprehensive literature maps for thesis or systematic review work; researchers tracking active fields who need automated alerts on new publications; and scientific teams requiring collaborative literature management.
