Pros & Limitations

Editorial assessment

Mastra

Pros

  • ✓Built for TypeScript and JavaScript, with framework integrations for Next.js, React, Express, Hono and other web frameworks, so web developers can ship production agents without switching to Python.
  • ✓The model router gives one API to models from more than 200 providers, with automatic fallbacks, and Mastra works as both an MCP client and an MCP server.
  • ✓29.3k GitHub stars, $35M raised including a $22M Series A, v1.0 stable since January 2026, and published case studies from Replit, Salesforce, Sanity, SoftBank, Factorial, WorkOS and Plaid.

Limitations

  • –TypeScript and JavaScript only, so Python-first teams would need to work in TypeScript to use it.
  • –Regulated data is contractually out of scope on the standard terms. Mastra holds SOC 2 Type II but publishes no ISO 27001, and its agreement prohibits submitting protected health information under HIPAA, cardholder data under PCI DSS, or Gramm-Leach-Bliley financial data unless separately agreed in an order form.
  • –Enterprise features such as RBAC and SSO need a paid plan or a commercial license. Teams at $250 a month adds SSO and SOC 2 documentation, and Enterprise is quote-only on both the hosted and self-hosted surfaces.
