Pros

• ✓Works from a goal to finished documents, spreadsheets, presentations, reports and Sites, and can run on a schedule or when a Gmail, Slack or GitHub event occurs.
• ✓Runs in the cloud on web and mobile and locally in the desktop app with permission to use local files and apps, with OpenAI Codex in the same app.
• ✓Free includes limited Work on desktop, and admins control cloud and local Work access by role.

Limitations

• –Usage follows the Codex model, so longer and more complex tasks use more of the plan allowance, and extra usage is bought as credits.
• –Plus and Business Standard seats include limited GPT-6 Astra usage in Work, and event-triggered tasks are not on Free or Go.
• –Content on Free, Go, Plus and Pro can be used for model training unless the user opts out in settings.

Pros

• ✓Anthropic says Cowork uses the same agentic approach as Claude Code but aims it at knowledge work: research, analysis, documents and multi-step tasks that finish while the user is away and wait for review.
• ✓Users choose which folders and connectors Cowork can reach, and by default it asks before taking an action, shows its progress and can be redirected mid-task.
• ✓Microsoft says it brought the technology that powers Claude Cowork to Microsoft Copilot Cowork, and Compliance API coverage of Cowork sessions on desktop, web and mobile is generally available for Claude Enterprise.

Limitations

• –Cowork works only with a paid plan, so there is no free way to try it. Anthropic says the combined Claude app will reach Free plans after Pro and Max, without giving a date.
• –Token consumption is materially higher than regular Chat, and Anthropic says so on the pricing card itself. Sustained daily agentic work pushes a Pro user toward the Max tier.
• –The desktop app is the full Cowork experience. Local files and Claude's built-in browser need it, and the product page still labels web and mobile as beta.
