Pros & Limitations

Editorial assessment

Bolt.new

Pros

  • ✓Builds, runs, tests and fixes full-stack web apps in the browser from a chat, with no local environment to set up.
  • ✓Design system agents bring a team's own tokens, components and repositories into Bolt, and admins can set a default design system for every app.
  • ✓Connectors run on MCP, with Notion, Linear, GitHub, Miro, Sentry, Context7, Granola and Jira built in and any remote MCP server addable.
  • ✓Hosting, databases, user management, authentication and custom domains are built in, and Bolt holds SOC 2 Type 2.

Limitations

  • –Apps run in a browser WebContainer, so work that needs native dependencies, GPU access or long-running background jobs has to move to other hosting.
  • –Usage is metered in tokens that vary with the size of each build, with daily limits on Free and a monthly allowance on Pro.
  • –From October 7, 2026, content on individual plans outside the EEA, UK and Switzerland can be used for model training and licensed datasets unless the user opts out.
  • –SSO, audit logs and compliance support are on the quote-based Enterprise plan.
