Poolside is the foundation model lab building large language models specifically for long-horizon work, starting with software engineering agents, and the enterprise systems to deploy them at scale. Founded in 2023 by Jason Warner (former CTO of GitHub) and Eiso Kant, Poolside has raised $626M+ at a $3B valuation from DST Global, Bain Capital Ventures, and NVIDIA. The Poolside Platform runs agents where developers already work: VS Code, Visual Studio, Zed, IntelliJ, or the terminal. Agents connect to Slack, Jira, GitHub, Workday, and Salesforce through centrally managed MCP servers. Every session runs in a containerized environment with built-in secret management and network policy control. Every agent action including tool calls, file edits, reasoning steps, and decisions is recorded as a searchable trajectory. Credentials are encrypted at rest, injected at runtime, and automatically redacted from outputs. Poolside released the first two models in the Laguna family in May 2026: Laguna M.1 and Laguna XS.2, alongside the runtime used to train and operate agents, available through two product experiences in research preview. Poolside Console provides agent management with skills, credentials, audit logs, redaction patterns, and agent debugging. Poolside Assistant ships as IDE extensions for VS Code and Visual Studio, with ACP-compatible integration for JetBrains, Zed, and Neovim via the CLI. Poolside Agent CLI supports interactive and automated one-shot workflows. The April 2026 release added plan mode (beta) and third-party model provider integration (beta). Integration depth is strong across enterprise surfaces. MCP servers connect agents to Slack, Jira, GitHub, Workday, and Salesforce with centralized management. IDE extensions cover VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains, Zed, and Neovim. Four deployment options are available: bare metal, air-gapped on turnkey Dell hardware, AWS VPC, Azure, and Google Cloud. Poolside now serves both enterprise and government markets, with Forward Deployed Research Engineers embedding with customer teams to ship the first automated workflow in weeks. No project management or collaboration tool integrations exist beyond MCP-connected access to Jira and Slack. Pricing is enterprise-only with no public self-serve tier. Poolside has secured enterprise partnerships including with Booz Allen Hamilton for federal market deployments. Individual developers and mid-market teams need productized tools such as Cursor ($20/month) or Claude Code ($20/month) instead. Current state Q2 2026: Laguna XS.2 and M.1 released May 2026 as the first Laguna family models. The Poolside Platform launched with production-grade agents deployed inside customer security boundaries. A dedicated Government section now appears on the website alongside Enterprise. Poolside is SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified.

Pros & Limitations

Editorial assessment

Pros

  • Agents run natively in VS Code, Visual Studio, Zed, IntelliJ, and terminal with MCP-connected access to Slack, Jira, GitHub, Workday, and Salesforce: the broadest enterprise tool surface of any AI coding agent platform with centralized MCP server management.
  • Four enterprise deployment options including air-gapped Dell hardware, bare metal, AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud: gives regulated industries and government agencies full control over data residency and network architecture.
  • Forward Deployed Research Engineers ship the first automated workflow with your team in weeks: an engineering partnership model that reduces implementation risk for large enterprises and government deployments.

Limitations

  • Enterprise-only with no public pricing or self-serve tier: Poolside targets Fortune 500 and government deployments; individual developers and mid-market companies need productized tools like Cursor or Claude Code.
  • No public trial or product evaluation path: procurement teams cannot evaluate Poolside without a sales engagement, unlike competitors that offer free tiers or documented API access.
  • Newer in the foundation model market than OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google: while well-funded at $626M+, Poolside has less production deployment history than established foundation model providers, with Laguna models only entering research preview in May 2026.
