Lovable is the AI-powered full-stack app builder that generates production-ready web applications from natural-language descriptions, with native integration to Supabase for backend infrastructure and Lovable Cloud for managed backend services. Founded in 2023 in Stockholm as GPT Engineer, Lovable rebranded in December 2024 and has grown into one of the most widely adopted vibe-coding platforms. The company reached $100 million in annual recurring revenue by July 2025 and raised $200 million at a $1.8 billion valuation that month. In December 2025 it raised a further $330 million Series B at a $6.6 billion valuation, co-led by Alphabet's CapitalG and Menlo Ventures, with participation from the venture arms of Nvidia, Salesforce, and Databricks. The core product generates React, Next.js, and Tailwind CSS applications with real backend infrastructure: Supabase provisioned automatically for database, auth, and row-level security, with Lovable Cloud launched in September 2025 as an alternative managed backend that requires no Supabase account or configuration. A May 2026 strategic partnership with Semrush, now an Adobe company, embeds Semrush search intelligence natively in the build experience. The platform also supports file uploads, data analysis, spreadsheet-to-app conversion, and business document generation, extending Lovable beyond web app generation into general productivity workflows. Lovable is not the right fit for developers who need full control over the generated codebase from day one or who want to deploy to infrastructure they control. Generated apps are production-grade but optimized for Lovable's own deployment layer: teams that want to migrate to AWS or a self-managed stack need to export to GitHub and rework deployment configuration manually. The credit-based model creates cost unpredictability for iterative development: Pro's 100 monthly credits can exhaust within days for complex multi-cycle builds. Teams that prefer terminal-based or IDE-embedded agentic coding should evaluate Cursor ($16/mo billed annually) or Claude Code ($17/mo billed annually) instead. Current state Q3 2026: Lovable acquired Molnett, a platform engineering company, on June 1 to expand infrastructure capabilities. Subagents launched May 27, enabling parallel research and exploration during complex builds. Chat Mode and a follow-up questions tool shipped, allowing the agent to ask clarifying questions before building. New projects default to server-side rendering via TanStack Start as of May 13.
