Pros

The SDK released in May 2026 lets teams embed the Cline agent runtime into their own applications and tooling.

• ✓Three product surfaces (IDE extension, CLI, SDK) cover different workflows: VS Code for interactive coding, CLI for headless CI/CD automation with messaging integrations (Slack, Telegram, Discord, WhatsApp, Linear), and SDK for embedding agents into custom products. Kanban orchestrates parallel agents across tools in a single UI.

Limitations

• ⚠No commercial support or SLA on the open-source tier: community support relies on GitHub Issues and Discord, with no contracted response times unless organizations move to Enterprise at custom pricing. Teams with incident response requirements must engage Enterprise sales.
• ⚠BYOK API cost management creates operational overhead: developers must monitor LLM API spending across providers, configure billing limits, and handle rate limit errors themselves. This is more friction than fixed-subscription tools like Cursor ($16/mo billed annually) or GitHub Copilot ($10/mo) that bundle inference costs into a flat fee.
• ⚠Compliance evidence is thin for regulated buyers as of Q3 2026: the trust center lists GDPR and SOC 2, but publishes no SOC 2 report of either type and carries no ISO 27001 or HIPAA. Enterprise offers VPC and air-gapped deployment for infrastructure control, which is not the same as third-party audit certification.
• ⚠Cline states that it does not use your code to train models, but it routes prompts to third-party providers. Its privacy notice records that some of those providers may use content for training unless you opt out with that provider directly.

Pros

• ✓Apache-2.0 licensed with more than 3,400 forks, so the full codebase stays available for audit, self-hosting and community-led continuation, and it is carried forward by the Zoo Code fork.

Limitations

• ⚠Roo Code Inc. shut the extension down on May 15, 2026 and archived the repository the same day. It is read-only, with no further development, bug fixes or security patches from the original team. The company points users to the Zoo Code community fork and to Cline.
• ⚠No commercial support, SLA or compliance certifications. Community support ran through GitHub Issues and Discord, and with the original team no longer active, help for new issues comes only from community forks and the existing documentation.
• ⚠The original team has moved on. Roo Code Inc. now builds Roomote, a separate cloud coding agent, so continuity, licensing and commercial questions can no longer go to the original team. The community-run Zoo Code fork is the maintained path.
