Pros & Limitations

Editorial assessment

API2Cart

Pros

  • Seventy-plus native platform connectors sit behind one API covering products, orders, customers, inventory, shipments, returns and refunds, which removes the per-platform connector maintenance a software vendor would otherwise carry in-house.
  • A first-party MCP server, live since July 2026, lets an AI agent read and write real store data through permission-scoped tokens, with Claude, Cursor, VS Code, OpenAI Codex, Google Antigravity and LM Studio all named by the vendor as compatible clients.
  • Pricing is public and self-serve across four tiers with request and store allowances stated on each, and the billing toggle changes price only, so committing annually does not change what the plan includes.

Limitations

  • There is no free plan, only a free trial, so the entry cost is $300 per month, and the Startup tier's 20,000 monthly API requests is one tenth of the allowance on the next tier up.
  • No SOC 2, ISO 27001 or PCI DSS claim is published anywhere on the vendor's estate and no trust portal exists on any of its subdomains, which will stall procurement at security-conscious buyers.
  • Several supported platforms require a connection bridge uploaded into the merchant's store using FTP credentials before data can be read, so onboarding a store is not always a credentials-only step.

Composio

Pros

  • MCP Gateway provides a single standardized endpoint for all tool calls compatible with major agent frameworks including Claude, Cursor and Codex: developers avoid building and maintaining individual integrations for each external service their agents need to reach.
  • Managed OAuth and credential handling covers authentication across 1,500 plus toolkits automatically: Composio refreshes tokens, retries failed calls and handles rate limiting, and connected accounts are unlimited and free on every tier including the free one.
  • The free Hobby tier carries 100,000 tool calls and 50,000 trigger events a month with no credit card and a hard cap, so a team can test at production scale without creating a bill.

Limitations

  • Composio is a developer-facing platform requiring SDK, CLI or MCP integration, so non-technical teams cannot adopt it without engineering involvement.
  • Compliance features are priced per call on the 29 dollar Pro tier rather than included: a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement adds 0.0003 dollars per tool call, which doubles the base rate, and zero data retention and IP allowlisting each add a further per-call charge. All three are included only on Enterprise.
  • Using a Composio-managed OAuth application instead of your own cuts the free monthly allowance from 100,000 tool calls to 20,000 and adds 0.0002 dollars per tool call on top of the base rate.
