Cursor Cloud Agent

Cursor Cloud Agent (formerly Background Agent) is Anysphere's autonomous coding agent that runs in the cloud without requiring the Cursor IDE to be open. Unlike the standard Cursor editor which requires active developer input, Cloud Agent works independently: executing multi-step coding tasks, running tests, making commits, and fixing CI failures while the developer focuses on other work. It operates with full codebase context from Cursor's existing repository indexing, producing more accurate changes than agents without repo-level understanding. Pricing is included with all Cursor plans at no additional cost. Hobby (free) provides limited Cloud Agent requests. Individual at $20/month provides extended Cloud Agent access alongside frontier model access, MCPs, skills, hooks, and Bugbot on usage-based billing. Teams at $40/user/month adds Cloud Agents with shared team context, team-wide rules, skills and automations, Security review agent, SAML/OIDC SSO, and enforced team-level privacy mode. Enterprise is custom-priced with pooled usage, SCIM, audit logs, and granular model controls. Annual billing is available on Individual and Teams tiers. Cloud Agent inherits Cursor's full integration ecosystem: GitHub and GitLab for PR creation, commits, and code review; MCP support for connecting external tools and data sources; the VS Code extension marketplace for additional tooling; and native connections to development infrastructure including Vercel, Supabase, and Linear. Rather than requiring a separate product, subscription, or context setup, Cloud Agent runs in the same environment where developers already work, with pre-indexed codebase context and existing MCP integrations automatically available. This eliminates the context-transfer overhead that standalone autonomous agents like Devin or Jules require. Cloud Agent is best suited for well-defined, repetitive tasks: bug fixes from CI failures, test writing, dependency updates, landing page builds, and refactoring within understood patterns. It is not yet reliable for novel architectural decisions or complex features requiring deep product judgment and iterative human direction. Heavy Cloud Agent usage draws from the same premium request allowance as other Cursor AI features on lower-tier plans. Cursor is not the right fit for developers who need fully autonomous background engineering with task assignment via Slack or issue trackers. Devin at $20/month provides that workflow with standalone cloud sandboxes and Slack/Linear integration for task triggering. Developers who want open-source transparency and BYOK flexibility should evaluate Cline (free) or OpenCode (free), which provide full source access and multi-provider model selection without a proprietary IDE. Current state Q2 2026: Cloud Agent is the official name (replacing the previous Background Agent branding). Cursor's parent product has 291 G2 reviews at 4.7/5, confirming broad developer adoption. Anysphere operates under SOC 2 Type II certification. Cursor positions itself as "the best coding agent" with Cloud Agents, Marketplace, and CLI as the three product surfaces.
