TRAE is ByteDance's AI development platform, sold as two products on one subscription. TraeCode is an AI IDE with autocomplete, AI chat and a SOLO agent mode. TraeWork is an agent workspace with desktop, web and mobile clients that grew out of TraeCode's SOLO mode. It has a Code mode for software work and a Work mode for slides, data analysis, research and documents, and it runs tasks in the cloud in parallel, so a developer can hand off several jobs at once and review the results as they finish.

TraeCode connects to external tools through MCP, adding third-party MCP servers and using them inside its agents, so it is an MCP client rather than a server other agents connect into. The free plan runs in Auto mode, where TRAE picks the model, and paid plans unlock all available models. TRAE Enterprise, sold through ByteDance's BytePlus cloud, adds indexing of up to 100,000 files and 150 million lines of code, enterprise rules and knowledge bases, a productivity dashboard, org-wide spending caps and role-based access, with a CLI and VPC deployment listed as coming soon.

Pricing is published in USD with a monthly and a yearly toggle, and yearly billing saves 17 percent. Free is $0 with Auto mode only, limited usage, 5,000 autocompletions a month and two concurrent cloud tasks. Pro is $20 per month, or $16.67 per month billed yearly, with $20 of included usage each month, all models, unlimited autocomplete and up to 10 concurrent cloud tasks in TraeWork. Pro+ is $60, or $50 billed yearly, with $60 of usage and up to 15 concurrent tasks. Ultra is $200, or $166.67 billed yearly, with $200 of usage, early model access and up to 20 concurrent tasks. Enterprise is quoted through BytePlus.

What the entry price does not buy: usage is a dollar balance consumed by each AI request, so a heavy month can exhaust it, and on the free plan the allowance is a one-time grant that does not reset monthly. Data handling depends on a setting. TRAE's documentation says chat interactions, including code snippets and AI-generated outputs, may be used for analytics, product improvement and model training unless Privacy Mode is switched on, and Privacy Mode only applies while the user is logged in. Codebase files are not used for training in either case and are uploaded only temporarily to compute embeddings. The Enterprise page states that code is never used to train models and is not stored.

TRAE suits developers who want an AI IDE and a cloud agent workspace from one subscription, and teams that want to run several agent tasks in parallel. Developers who want an AI IDE from a vendor other than ByteDance can look at Cursor at $8/mo. Teams already buying through GitHub can look at GitHub Copilot at $10/mo. Developers who prefer a terminal-first coding agent can look at Claude Code at $17/mo billed annually.

Current state Q4 2026: TRAE now ships as TraeCode and TraeWork, with TraeWork available as standalone desktop, web and mobile clients. The paid ladder was rebuilt around Pro, Pro+ and Ultra at $20, $60 and $200 a month, and the former $3 Lite plan is no longer listed. TRAE states SOC 2 Type 2 certification on its Enterprise page and in its site footer. The privacy policy, last updated May 20, 2026, names Cosmo Technology Private Limited as the operator. Named Enterprise customers are CubeOne, a two-person team that built a presentation tool on TRAE, and Huifu, a Chinese digital payments platform that reports over 70 percent developer adoption at peak usage.
